I wish I had a go to alternative of similar price point and convenience that sounded better with music I think that might be the KSC75 (in fact it's less than half the price). Especially if you already have 4 porta pro headbands. If you're on android you could also try Wavelet equalizer and see if that helps.
Hey, I am in the process of searching for ear pads replacements for my porta pro which I just received as a present, and I read about G cush (which I didn't find to buy) and the famous yaxi pads, I will this weekend go on an audiophile shop and see if they have any test pads which I can try on, I would like to know the experience of my fellow koss owners!

I love the porta pros because they’re lightweight and have an image that fits a y2k/retro tech aesthetic that I’m fond of. Unfortunately, the porta pros have issues with sound leaking and I’m not willing to sacrifice that for the aesthetic. Are there any good alternatives I can look into?

I like my Koss Porta Pro and also all the other cheap Koss headphones Kph30i, KTX Pro 1 etc. The KSC75 have less bass and more mids/treble than the Porta Pros and I actually prefer the on-ear earclip style they have and the brighter sound signature (though KSC75 lacks subbass so not great for all genres).
I would like to show you how I replaced the original DAS drivers with Koss Porta Pro drivers. Everywhere you read that the best headphones were the ones from the Rift CV1. The CV1 drivers are from Koss. So I bought some used Porta Pro and took the risk of losing the warranty on my DAS and in the worst case having defective Koss and a defective DAS.

It’s the Porta Pro, KPH30i and KSC75 that seem to get all the attention of the Koss headphones with the 60 ohm drivers. Ain’t nobody talking about the KTXPro1, even while it has the titanium coated driver like the praised KSC75! : (. Seriously though, these headphones are wonky. I bought these only because they were the cheapest Koss 60 ohm

Both are inexpensive with the Porta Pro retailing for $49.99 USD and the PX 100-II retailing for $69.99 USD. Both are also offered in variants with an in-line mic and iDevice controls for a little extra ($79.99 for the Porta Pro KTC, $89.99 USD for the PX 100IIi). Construction The Porta Pro is mostly plastic with a sliding adjustable metal band.

Go in from the front of the grill, around the edge where there is a tiny gap between the grill and the driver housing. Very gently stick in you screwdriver in the gap around the rim and pry loose one tab, then the next and after the third one the grill will come off. Jun 7, 2016 at 3:56 PM Post #5 of 8.
I love both the Koss Porta Pro and KSC75, and am looking for the next step up from them around the $200 mark. What headphone do you recommend with a similar sound? Primary use will be for music - indie, alternative, live shows, rock, punk, and pop. Comfortable would also be a plus. Maybe that lessens with more burn in although Koss apparently does 400 hours of burn in or something like that). More distinction in the instruments I find (especially treble). Fwiw, here's a couple of very positive youtube reviews for the KSC75's:

Fully Wireless Koss Portapro Mod. A couple months ago I had ripped my Portapro's wire when it got caught on a door. Since then I put in 2 pin IEM connectors on each driver and had been using a replacement wire for an IEM. But I always wanted fully wireless Portapros and wasn't happy with having a wire on my neck like with the official Bluetooth

Koss is brighter, Sennheiser is warmer. Pick your poison. *edit* to clarify, Koss KSC75 is the brightest due to slightly modded drivers vs. Porta Pro and Sporta Pro, and Sennheiser PX100 is warmest sounding. All of them have a strong midbass so all of them should have some kick. Apr 15, 2011.

PortaPro is my first pair of somewhat serious headphones. After seeing this review, I connected them to my Fiio K9 Pro and applied the EQ. So I can confirm: 1) They do sound better with a good amp than from the headphone jack. 2) The EQ does remove some of the bleeding from low end.
Same exact driver, same general sound signature. The enclosure and headband pressure make a slight difference in sound, and folks disagree on which is better. I much prefer the Porta Pro: mine has slightly more bass, slightly clearer treble, and feels less congested in the mids. The KPH30i sounds pretty close but it feels slightly less detailed
